                                                                       On the evening of March 28, 2000, in Fort Worth, Texas a spectacular tornado tore through both residential neighborhoods and the city's bustling downtown; a second twister lashed towns nearby. Several high-rise buildings suffered major damage, and one, a thirty seven story building, will eventually be demolished as the damage made it financially impossible to rebuild the office tower. The downtown area was cordoned off and closed for five days following the storm. The Southwestern Insurance Information Service estimated over 200 businesses were affected and damages exceeded $450 million.
